New In: Shay + Blue Lilacs and Gooseberries

Tuesday, May 11, 2021
I hope everyone is well, it has been almost two months since I've published a blog post! I might publish a blog post soon about a few life and blog updates but in short, I'm not going to be blogging much from now on (only once or twice per month) and I'm spending far less time online to focus on life offline, if that makes sense!

*Shay and Blue Lilacs & Gooseberries Eau De Parfum (gifted item sent to me)
Today's post is quite unexpected as I received a very surprise delivery last week from Shay and Blue! I received their lovely English cherry blossom fragrance last year but I didn't expect to receive another - and their newest launch! The new Lilacs & Gooseberries fragrance was released last week and is the first in a new range. Unfortunately it is currently sold out but hopefully it comes back in stock very soon.
The fragrance is limited edition and made in small batches, it is also vegan and it is cruelty free which is fantastic. It contains notes of: lilacs, gooseberries and white amber which to me smells very fresh, floral and spring-like but it also has musky and richer tones because of the white amber. It is a lovely combination of sweet, floral and musky that I think many would like, including me!

I have been wearing it for the past few days and from my initial impressions it is a lovely casual fragrance that would be great for the spring and summer months. It does seem to last fairly well on my skin so far and it makes a nice change from the heavier and more wintery fragrances I have been wearing recently. So far, so good and I am very happy with the fragrance - I'll be wearing it throughout the spring and summer months.

Have you tried any fragrances from Shay and Blue?

Winter Skincare Tips

Friday, January 15, 2021
If you've been following my blog for the past few years, you may have read some of my previous skincare posts - skincare is an intuitive process for me and my skincare needs are constantly changing. My skincare products and the needs of my skin are most apparent during the changing seasons. Winter is the most harsh time for my sensitive and dry skin as it always accentuates my dryness but thankfully I've amassed quite a few winter skincare tips and a few great products over the years.

Vitamin C & Brightening Products
I have quite a few products that I've loved for years that are fantastic for combatting dryness and dull skin but vitamin C is a new skincare ingredient to me and one that I've only recently started to incorporate into my skincare routine. Vitamin C is a fantastic brighting skincare ingredient that is great for dull skin, pigmentation and discolouration so it would be ideal as part of a winter skincare routine.

Over the past couple of weeks I've been using the *Baebody Vitamin C Moisturiser (£18.95) which can be found on Amazon UK. It contains vitamin C, jojoba oil, green tea and vitamin E which combine to create a daily facial moisturiser that is great for those with issues around discolouration, pigmentation, fine lines or dull skin. I love the packaging of the moisturiser, it is lovely to use and I love the smooth texture of the moisturiser - it easily glides over the skin. It is a fantastic moisturiser for my dry and slightly sensitive skin as it leaves my skin feeling comfortable, slightly brighter and super smooth. If you're looking for a great winter moisturiser with vitamin C, check out the Baebody Vitamin C Moisturiser.

Exfoliating
Exfoliating, the face and body, is a must for me during the colder months to help prevent my skin from looking so dull and dry. On the body I quickly use a body brush before my shower and for my face I use exfoliating toners which gently exfoliate the skin without the use of harsh scrubs. I personally use either Pixi glow tonic or the Pixi clarity tonic, both of which I'd recommend.

Moisturising & Oils

Last but definitely not least, rich moisturisers and oils! I've been using the Baebody moisturiser and my beloved Emma Hardie facial oil together as part of my evening skincare routine for the past couple of weeks and my skin adores the combination! Moisturising and using oils is important all year round but especially after exfoliating. Staying hydrated, using masks or treatments and keeping your body nourished can also help your skin!

Shay + Blue QVC TSV: November 2020

Wednesday, November 18, 2020

The festive season is right around the corner and so are a plethora of deals this November! Today's post is all about an amazing value deal with Shay and Blue and QVC which will be revealed this evening at 9pm on QVC; click the link to watch it live later today. Within the live event the incredible TSV (or today's special value) deal will be revealed which features three beautiful fragrance sets that I think would make lovely Christmas gifts this year! Head over to Shay and Blue as well as QVC to sign up for early access and to have a look at the other wonderful gift sets on available.

The TSV deal features three incredible sets to choose from, including English Cherry Blossom which is the set I was very generously sent - I can't resist anything cherry blossom scented, especially when the set look as beautiful as this one does! Each set contains a full sized fragrance as well as the accompanying shower oil and lotion. The collection has an additional surprise, a 10ml preview of the latest fragrance launch, Tallulah's Camellia, which is their new fragrance for 2021.

I was very kindly sent the *Shay and Blue English Cherry Blossom Collection (£48.96), the individual components of the collection can be purchased separately or as part of the incredible QVC TSV deal. The collection has a whole looks utterly beautiful, I adored the packaging and the scent itself is heavenly. As much as I love the set I received (and that I've been using non-stop), I think the other two collection sound amazing too.
The Shay & Blue English cherry blossom fragrance contains notes of: bergamot, green mandarin, fig, cassis, honeysuckle, black cherries, iris and woody notes, all of which combine to create a wonderful blend of musky florals and rich fruity notes that is ideal for autumn. I think it is a very timeless and classic fragrance while still feeling vibrant and youthful yet sophisticated.

Along with the fragrance, the collection includes the corresponding hand and body lotion as well as the rich almond shower oil. I've been using the beautiful and luxe hand lotion everyday while at my desk and it has been a miracle for my hands. As you may know if you've been following my blog for a while, I used to have awful eczema flareups on my face and hands; unfortunately it has reappeared on my hands which are now perpetually dry and sore so a rich hand lotion is always needed. The hand and body lotion smells divine, it doesn't irritate my eczema at all and it leaves my skin feeling comfortable, moisturised and super smooth!

Last but definitely not least might actually be my favourite product from the collection, although I do love all of the items and I cannot recommend them enough. The new and upcoming Tallulah's Camellia fragrance, which is included as a 10ml spray in the collection, is such a unique and uplifting fragrance which has managed to steal the show from a range of fantastic products. The fragrance is very difficult to describe and I don't have anything quite like it in my fragrance collection; it is sweet and floral but crisp, refreshing and unexpectedly comforting. It is definitely on my wish list for 2021.

With the value of the collection at over £100, it is a deal you can't miss! Don't forget to head over to QVC at 9pm for the reveal. Also, you can now order the collection from tomorrow and you can then select the collection (or one of the other scents) to be delivered again three months later - a top up delivered straight to your door!

The English Cherry Blossom collection is now sold out! However, the beautiful Black Tulip and Blackberry Woods are both still available on QVC.

Have you tried any fragrance from Shay and Blue? Will you be checking out the amazing TSV on QVC?

Autumn Favourites ft. HD Mirrors

Friday, October 09, 2020
Autumn is my favourite season as it is filled with cosiness, candles, comfort food and of course, halloween! However, I also love autumn for the richer skincare I reach for, the makeup trends and the pre-christmas beauty sets. I've already switched up my skincare and makeup for the new season (which is something I do for each season) and I've rediscovered a few fantastic favourites. I've also found so many amazing new products that I've been very kindly sent over the past month or so that I wanted to review and recommend.

*HD Mirrors - Malibu (£34.99)

The first product I'm loving and cannot recommend enough is my new makeup mirror and desk addition. I was very kindly sent the Malibu mirror from HD Mirrors which is a light-up, lightweight and easily portable makeup mirror that is not only ideal for keeping in a drawer at your desk but also for travelling so you don't have to rely on awkwardly placed mirrors and horrendous lighting!

The mirror is very lightweight, thin and easily stored so it would be fantastic for a number of uses; however I use mine mainly in my home office to apply my makeup each morning. The light in my office is great overall but with darker mornings and grey weather, it isn't the best for makeup application so the mirror comes in very handy!

There are two features of the mirror that I particularly love: the rechargeable battery so there aren't any wires or a plug needed while using the mirror and the full surround lighting which allows me to apply my makeup easily and quickly even during a rainy autumn morning in Manchester. The mirror saves space on my desk too as it can be easily stored away in a drawer which is something my previously bulky makeup mirror couldn't do. I couldn't be happier with my Malibu mirror from HD Mirrors and while I love it as a makeup and desk mirror, I think it would be absolutely perfect for travelling, whether you are travelling abroad (safely!) or going on a UK staycation.
*Green People Nordic Roots Hyaluronic Acid Serum (£27)
I typically apply the final steps on my skincare at my desk and just before I start applying my makeup so the Malibu mirror from HD Mirrors is a staple on my desk each morning! One of my favourite brands has released a new skincare range focused on the scandi staples of simplicity, functionality and clean ingredients.

Hyaluronic acid as well as squalane are both fantastic ingredients for deeply hydrating the skin and they are included in this fantastic serum (they are derived from plant based sources). If you suffer with dry, tight or uncomfortable skin then you cannot go wrong with this wonder serum! It leaves my skin deeply hydrated, soft and smoothe which is everything I want from a serum and it works perfectly with the apple complex moisturiser.

*Green People Nordic Roots Apple Complex Moisturiser (£25)

The new moisturiser from the Nordic Roots collection has been my go-to daily moisturiser for the past three or so weeks. It is packed with eco-friendly, cruelty free and vegan ingredients to hydrate and protect the skin which I think is especially important during the colder months when the temperature and weather can negatively affect the skin making it dry, tight and uncomfortable. The moisturiser is fast absorbing, gentle but effective and it leaves my skin feeling nourished, moisturised and ready for makeup.

Lastly I wanted to highlight a few other skincare products I have been loving recently and that I think would be perfect for autumn! My go-to cleanser for the past few weeks has been the amazing *Temple Spa Be Gone Kind-Hearted Cleansing Creme which is the best cleanser I can recommend for those with dry and sensitive skin as it is very gentle, silky smooth and leaves my skin feeling cleansed but moisturised and smoothe.

I've also been loving the *L'aves Skin Riches Extreme Performance Toner which is a category of skincare I didn't use previously very often but I like the step of using a toner especially one that is so lovely to use and has some of the nicest skincare packaging I've ever seen! As well as the toner, I've been using the *L'aves Skin Riches Facial Elixir as part of my evening skincare routine when my skin is particularly dry which seems to be constantly since the start of autumn. It leaves my skin feeling comfortable and very nourished and as part of my evening skincare routine, it has quickly become a staple product.

Have you tried any of the products I've featured?

September Beauty Favourites 2020

Tuesday, September 22, 2020

I have found so many fantastic new products over the past couple of months so I wanted to share my recent beauty favourites today which includes skincare, hair removal and an absolutely adorable advent calendar! If you've been following my social media (@ofbeautyand) then you'll have had a sneak peek of these products over the past month. Stay tuned for more favourites posts as well as my summer empties post which will be filled with mini product reviews!
*FFS Shaving Kit (from £9.95 per month)
I have reviewed a few products from FFS (formerly Friction Free Shaving) on my blog previously but I'm still loving their razors and natural deodorant. I love the rose gold handle (particularly with the personalised engraving) but I think that I like their new Iris handle even more! The Iris handle includes the same ergonomic, easy to use design and engraving option but the handle features a gunmetal and lavender colour combination which is just gorgeous!

I love the razor design, colours and how sharp the blades are as it gives the most smooth and close shave without the irritation I've experienced from cheaper disposable razors. The kit can be purchased as a monthly subscription (or every two months) and you can add extras to your kit such as a natural deodorant, body scrub, body balm, wax strips or a shaving cream. I've tried the balm, deodorant and now the shaving cream; all three have been gentle but effective. If you're looking for a more eco-friendly shaving option, check out FFS.
*Temple Spa BeCalm Soothing Face Mask (£28, 65ml)
Another brand that I've loved for a while is Temple Spa; I reviewed a few of their pampering and body care products back in 2017 and loved everything. I also adored their concealer and I'd highly recommend it as a brightening concealer, particularly for those with dry skin. Until recently I hadn't tried any of their skincare and I'm glad I have because, once again, I've fallen in love!

The soothing face mask contains a blend of Mediterranean botanicals, aubergine, liquorice and apricot along with probiotics to soothe and nourish sensitive skin. I've been using it for around the past couple of weeks and I've noticed that after every use, my skin feels more comfortable, moisturised and softer. I'll definitely be using this mask often throughout the colder months when my skin needs a little more moisture and TLC.

*Temple Spa Glowcolic (£20, 150ml)
Another product that would be ideal for the colder months is their new glycolic acid toner which is designed to resurface, exfoliate and renew the skin. I've tried quite a few glycolic acid toners, I think this is probably the fifth I've tried over the past year and so far, so good. The toner comes in a handy pump bottle, it hasn't irritated my skin and the result so far have all been positive.

Since using the toner every other day (as I used to have sensitive skin and I don't want to potential irritate it by using too much), I've noticed an improvement in the texture and clarity of my skin. If you are new to acid toners and you're looking to start with an effective but gentle option from a brand that has won 'best luxury skincare brand for 2020' then definitely check out the Temple Spa Glowcolic toner.
*Temple Spa Be Gone Kind-Hearted Cleansing Creme (£21, 150ml)

My favourite product from the three I was very kindly sent is their cleansing creme which I was surprised by as not only do cleansers not excite me in the way that new acid toners or treatments do but it also looks a little nondescript. However do not be fooled, this cleansing creme is a superhero in disguise! The creme contains vitamins A and E, probiotics and the Temple Spa Calmaderm complex which is designed for those with sensitive skin.

The cleansing creme has the most unusual but incredibly smooth and silky texture that glides over the skin effortlessly so there's no scrubbing or irritation while cleansing. Not only does it feel wonderful on the skin but it leaves it feeling incredible too. Since lockdown my skin has gone a little haywire and since using this cleanser my skin has calmed down, it feels much more comfortable and the dryness I was experiencing over my breakouts has reduced. If you have normal to dry or sensitive skin then this little unassuming cleansing creme will be your best friend during the upcoming colder months and I know that I'll be purchasing it in the future - it is a magic in a tub! I'll be including this wonder product alongside my other current skincare favourites as part of my upcoming autumn skincare routine and favourites so stay tuned.

*Bomb Cosmetics Bathe, Sleep, Be Merry and Repeat Advent Calendar (£19.99)

Last but definitely not least is my first advent calendar of the year and it has to be one of the cutest I've ever bought or received! I'm lucky enough to be a Bomb Cosmetics ambassador so I was very kindly sent this adorable advent calendar and I couldn't be happier with it. It contains 24 mini products to try including handmade soap, bath blasters, bath mallows and bath creamers, all of which smell divine. I have been using some of the products over the past couple of weeks and my favourites so far have to be the pink pamper soap and rose bath creamer (which looks so beautiful) but I can't wait to try the others. Make sure you are following me on Instagram (@ofbeautyand) for more sneak peeks into the advent calendar as well as reviews.

Have you tried any of these products? Will you be picking up a beauty advent calendar this year?

*5 Top Beauty Tools to Upgrade Your Home Facial

Friday, August 07, 2020
Image from Pinterest
Collaborative post (AD - paid)

In light of many restrictions being placed on beauty salons, more and more cosmetic lovers are turning to beauty tools that can offer the same level of treatment as an in-salon facial in the comfort of your own home. The rise in beauty devices has made these items a must-have for your dressing table, but are you certain you know the benefits of these popular beauty care items? We’ve detailed five beauty tools that are popular for at-home treatments.

Silk Headband

Before beginning any facial treatment, you will want to get your hair away from your face to prevent any product from getting into your hair. It’s recommended to use a silk headband to prevent causing any kinks or damage to your hair. If you want to go one step further, a silk pillowcase is gentler on your hair and skin overnight, preventing any breakages to your hair.

Facial Cleansing Brush

These beauty care items are usually made from flexible silicone to bend to your face and offer a deeper cleanse than just your usual cleanser. By using an Ultrasonic facial brush, your skin will benefit from a deeper cleanse, removing any leftover makeover or environmental impurities that built up over the day. The facial cleaners from Bioecosan are some of the best beauty tools available as they can be used for cleansing, lifting and sculpting. You’ll find that there are multiple products available, so you can choose the one that fits your budget best. Exfoliation is great for the skin, it removes dirt, increases blood circulation, and brightens your skin. However you choose to do it, it should be a key part of your skincare routine.

Jade Roller

Jade Rollers have been around since Egyptian times, but their appearances on popular Instagram beauty pages have seen a surge in their popularity. Crystal or jade rollers are recommended due to their lymphatic drainage properties, which reduces puffiness around your cheekbone. For higher performance, leave your roller in the fridge as the cooling effect will brighten your skin as well.

Ultra-Violet Cleaner

One of the most popular beauty must-haves is the Ultra-Violet sterilizing box. A UV sterilizer is an effective way to kill bacteria that can build up on your beauty care items. It disinfects by breaking down the molecular structure of the germ and destroying it, safely killing 99.9% of germs. By using UV sterilization, you eliminate the risk of being burnt by hot water or steam and provides chemical-free cleaning! Using a UV sterilizer, you can clean a variety of items, such as your combs and make-up brushes.

Derma Roller

In comparison to a jade roller, derma rollers look much more invasive, but it can offer incredible results for your skin. These devices made up of tiny needles create small punctures in the skin, which fools the skin into thinking it needs to renew its cells, creating an increase in collagen and plumpness. These devices are best used with higher quality facial products and only used 1-2 times a week to prevent overuse. Beauty tools can offer incredible benefits to the skin by working on the deeper tissues of the face, so enjoy creating salon facial experiences at home.

Sanctuary Spa Limited Edition Summer Gift Bag

Thursday, July 23, 2020

Sanctuary Spa has been a staple in my bathroom cabinet since I was a teenager, which was too long ago and it's not something I want to think about as I approach my 30's. Without fail, every birthday or Christmas I would very happily receive a Sanctuary Spa gift set from my parents, friends, cousins or aunties as it was a firm favourite with everyone, myself included. There are more photos of the set including the towel and bag on my Instagram stories!

I was very happy to receive their new limited edition summer gift set which includes the watermelon shower gel, watermelon body scrub, watermelon jelly in-shower body moisturiser and the watermelon mist, all of which are full sized products. As well as all of the summer scented bath and body products you also receive a large gift bag (that would be an ideal beach or pool bag) and a cute watermelon print beach towel. I think this gift would be perfect for a coast or beach staycation this summer.
*Sanctuary Spa Watermelon In-Shower Radiance Jelly
I'll start with one of my favourites from the set, the radiance jelly which is an after-shower moisturiser that is very similar to their existing moisture miracle which I reviewed as part of a Latest In Beauty box last year. I have received a couple of the smaller sizes of the moisture miracle and I loved them so I knew I'd like this version too.

I love the packaging of all Sanctuary Spa products and these are no different but the scent is. I personally adore the original Sanctuary Spa scent as it is not only lovely but it is also very nostalgic and almost comforting. I do like the new summery watermelon scent as it is very refreshing but I do prefer the original scent overall. I love using products like this as I am quite lazy when it comes to body moisturising so in-shower and quick options are always what I'll reach for over a traditional body lotion.

*Sanctuary Spa Watermelon Body Scrub
Even though I tend to skip body lotion out of laziness, I always love to use a body scrub as who doesn't love the feeling of squeaky clean and smooth skin! I do have a few favourite body scrubs, however, I find that most just aren't...scrubby enough. If the body scrub doesn't feel like it is sanding my skin then I'm going to be disappointed. Thankfully, the Sanctuary Spa scrub is a great combination of scrubby particles and shower gel. The scrub leaves my skin incredibly smooth and soft but with a subtle fruity scent that I like more with each use. While I love the radiance jelly, I think the scrub might actually be my favourite product from this cute summer set.
*Sanctuary Spa Watermelon Shower Gel
I think that out of all of the Sanctuary Spa products available in their range, the shower gel and the salt scrub have to be their most beloved and famous products. I know that both the scrub and shower gels are my favourites from their extensive range, closely followed by the beautifully designed gift sets! The watermelon shower gel is just as lovely to use and effective as their original but again it has the new summery fruity scent that I thought I wouldn't love but I'm enjoying more and more.

*Sanctuary Spa Watermelon Face and Body Mist
Last but not least is the smallest item in the set and it is an item I haven't tried from Sanctuary Spa previously. I don't think I've tried any of their skincare before but I definitely want to especially the masks as if you've been following me on Instagram (@ofbeautyand) you'll know that I've been loving using face masks much more during lockdown. I don't use face mists very often, unless we have a rare but glorious heatwave in the UK so I wasn't sure if I'd like this product but it actually surprised me. The spray is incredible fine unlike others I've tried that have felt like a water gun to the face! It's such a light, fine and refreshing mist with a lovely scent that would be great for cooling down on a hot summers day.

Have you tried any products from Sanctuary? Will you be picking up this great value limited edition set?

New In: Vegan Haircare from Shrub

Tuesday, July 14, 2020

Throughout lockdown I've been trying to not only use up as many products as I can (I have far too many samples and half-used products) but I've also been trying a few new items. The new haircare brand I've tried is Shrub which is a more ethical and vegan brand that doesn't contain liquid plastics and the ingredients are all sourced from local British farms. One of my goals for 2020 was to make more ethical and environmentally friendly choices so I think this brand is perfect to help tick off that goal for me, in terms of haircare.

I'll start with the hair primer which is a product I haven't ever tried before! It contains lots of plant based ingredients such as nettle, elderflower and willow extracts; all of the products I've tried have a lovely subtle 'green' scent. The primer can be used on wet or dry hair to smooth the hair, make it shine and help with manageability.

I don't tend to use too many products on my hair, apart from hair masks and treatments but the look of all the Shrub products has made me want to use more haircare - I love the packaging design! I like this hair primer, on wet hair or dry hair, although it seems to work best on wet hair. It leaves my hair smoother, softer and a little more manageable, in terms of tangles and frizz.
*Shrub Detangling Spray (£9.99)
My favourite product from the three I've tried is a tie between The Wonder Oil and the Detangling Spray. My hair is naturally wavy, dry at the ends with occasionally greasy roots and more often than not, frizz and tangles. Therefore I'm always looking for items to help not only with oily roots but frizz and awful tangles so I was excited to try these last two products.

The detangling spray has a pleasant scent, it doesn't weight my hair down or make it greasy, it is very easy to use and it does help to detangle my hair, particularly when combined with The Wet Brush - no more painful hair brushing! If you also have dry and tangled hair then I'd definitely recommend trying out this detangling spray.
*Shrub The Wonder Oil (£14.99)
Last but not least is the hair oil from the range which is the item I've been using the most, closely followed by the detangling spray. One of the suggested uses of the oil, on the box, was to apply it to the scalp to help soothe a dry, flakey scalp which is a hair issue I struggle with. I have been applying a few drops of the hail oil onto my palms then distributing it onto my scalp on the morning before I wash my hair so the product has a few hours to moisturise the skin. I'm happy with the oil, both when used on the scalp to reduce dryness and on the ends to tame frizz. If you're looking for a vegan, cruelty free hair oil, I'd recommend this lovely option from Shrub.

FFS Rebranding + Review

Saturday, July 11, 2020

Back in April I created a post all about the subscription boxes I recommend to help you get through lockdown and within it, I included my Friction Free Shaving kit that I was very kindly sent but now they've rebranded and I love the new designs! I was sent a kit including their natural deodorant, all of which came in their new rebranded packaging.

*FFS Kit (from £9)
The basic kit you can buy starts from £9 which includes the rose gold handle as well as a set of four blades. The blade heads feature a diamond coating and a soothing vitamin E strip to reduce irritation and time spent shaving. The rose gold handle can be re-used which is much better for the environment and saves plastic waste being added to landfill - yes to making more environmentally friendly choices!
I've been using my razor along with the accompanying blades on and off since April and I love this razor. Since my teens I've been using plastic disposable razors which always left me with razor burn and cuts; however I did start using a single bladed razor at the end of 2019 which is far better than the disposable plastic options, in terms of the environmental impact and performance. As much as I love the single bladed razor, I do have to use a shave gel with it, it's a little more time consuming and I think it can be a little nerve wracking to use, if you aren't used to it.

So the FFS razor with it's very effective, super sharp blades and moisturising strips is a fantastic balance between the two as it has the speed and efficiency of the single bladed razor (or safety razor) but it also has the familiarly, ease of use and convenience of a plastic razor. I find that I do still get razor burn and ingrown hairs with this razor but definitely not as much compared to other razors I've tried in the over ten years I've been using razors.
*FFS Natural Deodorant (£5)
In addition to the basic kit, you can choose optional extras to add your your kit such as wax strips (£3), shave cream (£6), shave scrub (£6), post-shave balm (£6), an additional rose gold handle (£6) or one of their three natural deodorants. I have been using the rosemary and bergamot scented deodorant for a few months now and I love it! I was kindly sent the tea tree and orange scent this time around and while I do love the scent, I think I refer the rosemary and bergamot option more.

Overall, I think that the FFS shaving kit is a fantastic opinion not just in terms of how effective, convenient and easy it is to use but it is cruelty free, the blades are recyclable and the handle can be re-used so it's far better for the environment. While I loved the original packaging, I also love the new rebrand and I cannot recommend FFS products enough!

Have you tried anything from FFS? Are you trying to make more environmentally friendly choices in 2020?

June Beauty Favourites 2020

Tuesday, July 07, 2020
I've starting loving writing my monthly or bi-monthly favourites posts as well as a lockdown empties post (that's coming soon) so today's post is a short and sweet review of some of my favourite products from the month of June. I could have included many more products but you'll hear about some of them in my lockdown empties posts and my very long overdue winter and spring favourites post. I hope you all like reading about favourite products, empties and mini reviews as there are quite a few coming soon on my blog. You can always get a sneak peek of what I'm using, loving and receiving on my Instagram stories (@ofbeautyand).
I am very lucky to receive lots of lovely products from the amazing people over at Bubble T Cosmetics and I recently received their new hand sanitisers in the post. I have four of the six that are available including: gin and tonic, lemon, pina colada and mango, all of which have the cutest packaging design. The Bubble T Cosmetics hand sanitisers contain 70% alcohol with a fruity scent. As with their other products, the sanitisers are cruelty free which is fantastic!

I've been using the gin and tonic option the most as they are perfect sizes to keep in my handbag or the car and they have a pleasant scent unlike some of the other hand sanitisers we've been using during lockdown. Over the past couple of weeks I have developed little eczema again on my fingers (maybe due to stress) but thankfully it isn't too bad and if I avoid using the sanitiser on those tiny areas then I have no irritation. I think they're fantastic little hand sanitisers that I definitely prefer them over all of the others I've used since lockdown began.
*COSRX Clear Fit Master Patch (£4.80)
As well as a little eczema on my fingers, I've also been having trouble with my skin as I've now developed a few areas of many spots and redness on my cheeks which have annoyingly been a constant on my face for the past couple of months. I've never really experienced spots or blemishes before (probably because I had eczema over half of my face for more than ten years until January 2019) so I haven't known what to use. Thankfully I was very kindly sent a couple of spot and acne patches from the Korean brand COSRX which as far as I know is cruelty free and vegan friendly!

The Clear Fit Master Patch set comes with 18 small patches that are a great size for smaller or individual spots. They are 'invisible' and absorb impurities as well as oil throughout the day. The patches also provide a barrier against external irritants as well as makeup. I find that they are relatively 'invisible' and not very noticeable from a distance but they become apparent if you look closer or from a certain angle. I've been loving using these little patches and after keeping a couple of patches on my spots overnight, I do notice that they are flatter in the morning.

*COSRX AC Collection Acne Patch (£7)
As much as I love using the previous patches from COSRX, my favourite set of the two has to be the acne patches. I don't think that the collection of persistent spots I have is acne but these patches have been the most effective out of the two sets for my skin. The patches act as a protective barrier, they absorb oil and impurities and they are formulated with Centella Asiatica extract which is a well known medicinal plant that is used to treat small wounds, burns and psoriasis.

The set comes with 26 patches in small, medium and large sizes and they are much more noticeable compared to the others so I've only been wearing them overnight or in the evening. I've been using the largest patches to cover a larger area of spots and my skin is significantly better the next day although I find that I have to use them consistently to get the benefits. If you're looking for effective spot patches from a cruelty free and vegan friendly brand then I cannot recommend these from COSRX enough.
Last but not least is my current razor and holder from Estrid that I've previously reviewed on my blog so check out that post for more in-depth information about the kit. The razor and wall mounted holder from Estrid is just so convenient, from the super handy holder to the comfortable handle and the lovely moisturising strips, it's one of the most convenient, easy and fuss free razors I've ever used. I get a very clean and close shave each time without having to use shave gels. What could make the razor even better? It is vegan friendly, what more could you ask for!

April + May Favourites 2020

Wednesday, May 27, 2020
During the lockdown period I've discovered so many new favourite products so I wanted to share them with you today. From one lifestyle favourite to skincare, body care and a fragrance favourite. I do have so many more favourites than what I'll be reviewing in today's post but they will be reviewed in my very belated winter favourites post which will showcase all of the genuinely fantastic products I used and loved throughout the months of December, January and February.

*Barley Cup Cereal Drink
I'll begin with the one lifestyle favourite I have for the past two months and it's a new drink! I was sent a couple of samples of barley drink which is a vegan friendly cereal drink that is made of barley, rye and chicory. It is naturally caffeine free and low calorie which is something I've been looking for recently as I have wanted to reduce my caffeine intake. I used to love Horlicks drinks growing up and it is very nostalgic to me so I hoped these would be a little similar and they are to an extent. The flavour is very nutty, roasted and earthy which I love but it's much stronger than I thought; however I do love it and I will be looking out for it in the future (when the world is a little less chaotic).
*Bubble T Soapscription
I've already reviewed this shower gel subscription service a few times on my blog so I will keep this section short and sweet. I've been lucky enough to receive a few of the soapscription boxes over the past few months and I loved each one. I think it's such a great idea, especially as we are currently in lockdown until mid-June. I've liked every scent I've tried from them, particularly as they all tend to be quite unique. Click on the link above for more subscription box recommendations to help you get through lockdown!

*Daisy by Marc Jacobs via Perfume Direct
Another favourite is one I've also reviewed on my blog previously but I wanted to include it in todays post as it is the fragrance I've been wearing non-stop since I received it back in April. The 'daisy' range from Marc Jacobs is very nostalgic to me as it is a fragrance I grew up wearing so I was very happy to receive a bottle to review from the lovely people at Perfume Direct. If you're looking for the perfect spring fragrance that will last all day, look no further.

*Pixi Glow Tonic
One of my winter favourites has to be the First Aid Beauty radiance pads but I used up them up and since then I've been loving the Pixi glow tonic. I find the First Aid Beauty pads to be instantly smoothing, softening and exfoliating but the glow tonic is just as effective. I have found the tonic to be gentle, effective and it has been helping massively with the breakouts I've been having. I cannot recommend it enough as it's helping my skin to stay smooth and clear during all of the stress of lockdown.
*Bomb Cosmetics Build Your Own Soap (£7.99)
Last but not least for today's post is one of my more recent favourites and it's the soap I designed via Bomb Cosmetics. I'm lucky enough to be a Bomb Cosmetics ambassador so I receive their products to review but I have been using their products since before I started my blog! One of their newer products is a 'build your own soap' feature which I think is a fantastic idea and it would make a very cute and practical personalised gift. Check out the link above for more information on the soap and don't forget to use the code: STAYSAFE10 to get 10% off your order as well as a free slice of soap!

Stay tuned for my upcoming lockdown empties and winer favourites posts for more product reviews and recommendations!

The Ultimate Spring Fragrance with Perfume Direct

Tuesday, May 05, 2020
While autumn may be my favourite season, spring is a very close second place and there's nothing more spring-like than blue skies and the scent of newly bloomed flowers. Every season I alternate the skincare, makeup and fragrances I'm using to suit the season, weather and trends. Floral fragrances are some of my favourites and there are a couple that I've loved for years that always remind me of spring and summer holidays and happy memories.

One of the fragrances is Daisy by Marc Jacobs which I've tried a few variations of and adored all of them but I think the original will always be one of my all time favourites, closely followed by Daisy Dream. I was very kindly sent a bottle of the original Daisy by Marc Jacobs fragrance from the lovely people over at Perfume Direct - thank you for reintroducing me to one of my all time favourite fragrances!
*Daisy by Marc Jacobs (EDT, 50ml)
Let's take a moment to appreciate how utterly adorable the bottles are for all of the entire Marc Jacobs Daisy range! My favourite bottle design is the original Daisy fragrance but the Daisy Dream is a very close second - I reviewed and included it within my January 2016 beauty favourites post! The box is also adorable so it would make a lovely gift and it is very spring-like too.

The fragrance itself is described as a sparkling, fresh and youthful fragrance which I think makes it ideal for spring and for any age as it is a fragrance that I think would suit anyone and almost any occasion. It has a range of uplifting floral notes combined with fresh fruit and creamy musky notes which makes the most intoxicating spring and summer fragrance.
Top notes: Violet Leaf, Blood Grapefruit, Strawberry
Middle notes: Gardenia, Violet, Jasmine
Base notes: Musk, White Woods, Vanilla

The notes are perfect and it makes me instantly happier when I spray the fragrance onto my skin and clothing. As well as being such a glorious, spring-like fragrance, it is also one of the most long lasting fragrances I've ever tried. It is an EDT which tend to be less long lasting and weaker compared to EDP equivalents; however the longevity of the Daisy EDT is very impressive as I can smell the fragrance clearly on my clothing or accessories the day after I initially applied the fragrance.

Over the past couple of years I've slowly decreased the amount of beauty products (and all items in general) I've been purchasing but fragrances are always items I'll invest in as they are little luxuries that I love to use everyday. I think that finding not only the right fragrance for you is important but one that is as long lasting as it can be too and I think the balance is perfect with the Daisy range from Marc Jacobs. The range is a little pricy but the quality, heavenly scent and impressive longevity (so a little goes a long way) more than makes up for the price tag.

Eco Friendly Choices with So Natural Cosmetics

Sunday, May 03, 2020
One of my goals for the year was to make more environmentally friendly choices; I am already vegan which is my most significant eco-friendly choice and I recycle as much as I can but I think I can make better choices when it comes to the everyday products I'm using in terms of the packaging used, ingredients and if the items are recyclable. Thankfully there are many more natural and environmentally friendly options now and one of the new-to-me brands that ticks all of the boxes is So Natural Cosmetics.

I was very kindly sent a few of their products to try out and I've been loving using them. They have a wide range of natural, plant-based skincare, body care products and accessories. I was sent the waterproof makeup remover, lip balm, deodorant stick and the reusable makeup pads and wash bag, the latter is an item I've wanted to try for months.
*So Natural Cosmetics Moisturising Lip Balm (£4.99)
Let's start with the lip balm which is packaged in paper tube that is not only utterly adorable but it is also made in the UK and is fully recyclable. The lip balm is vegan and contains organic ingredients including: castor oil, jojoba oil, cocoa butter and more - check out their website for a full list of the ingredients for each product.

The lip balm also contains peppermint essential oils so is smells lovely and it makes it feel very refreshing to use. On the topic of using the product, as it comes in a paper tube, you have to push up the base to dispense more of the product rather than twist the tube as you would with plastic packaging. It's a very effective, moisturising but gentle lip balm that I can't recommend enough.
*So Natural Effective Deodorant Stick (£8.95)
Next up is probably my favourite product of the four I was sent, very closely followed by the makeup pads, it's the So Natural deodorant stick. They offer a gel deodorant and a stick version, the latter comes in a paper tube like the lip balm. I love the packaging and that it is vegan! The deodorant contains lovely natural ingredients such as coconut oil, rosemary leaf extract and castor oil, to name a few.

I love the scent as it is minty, coconutty (not a word) and very food-like to me which might be something you love too or it might be a little too unusual. I've tried a couple of natural deodorants and I did like them but they were both in glass pot containers which made them a little less convenient to use so I'm glad this one is in a handy stick format. It isn't irritating on the skin and it doesn't feel heavy or sticky thankfully. For me personally it is a gentle but effective deodorant and I'd highly recommend it if you want to switch to a natural deodorant without having to make any compromises.
*So Natural Waterproof Makeup Remover (£9.95)
The penultimate item from So Natural is their waterproof makeup remover which contains vitamins, castor oil and olive oil as well as a few other natural ingredients to create a gentle and soothing makeup remover. I haven't been wearing much makeup while we've been in lockdown apart from brow pencil and a little mascara so I don't think I've really tested this makeup remover to it's limits just yet but it did work well removing my CC cream, brow pencil, lipstick and non-waterproof mascara. I haven't used it on my stubborn waterproof mascaras yet or my long lasting lipstick but I hope it will work equally as effectively as it has been.
*So Natural Eco-Friendly Reusable Makeup Pads and Wash Bag (£18.95)
Last but definitely not least is an item I've wanted to try for months and I had a set in my Amazon saved list ready to purchase so I'm glad I was able to review this set from So Natural. I have the set that comes with the wash bag but you can buy the pads and wash bag individually too. The pack contains 10 pads (8cm in diameter) as well as the mesh wash bag which is made of recycled cotton.

I did wash the pads by hand before I used them and I have been using them for removing my makeup since I recently them a couple of weeks ago. The pads is the perfect size, they are hand sewn and they can be reused over and over again. The pad is soft and smooth but one side is slightly rougher than the other which makes it great for makeup removal. I'm so happy with the pads and now I don't have to purchase any more cotton pads!

Have you tried anything from So Natural? Are you trying to make more environmentally friendly choices?
