DegustaBox - October 2020

Wednesday, November 04, 2020

I'm a little late with my review of the fantastic October DegustaBox but it's here! The *DegustaBox - October 2020 has a theme of 'movie night and Halloween' and features a range of sharing snacks from brands including Reeses, KitKat, Malteasers, Naked and many more. There was a great variety within the box as well as another gift! You will have already seen the unboxing and contents if you follow me on Instagram (@ofbeautyand).

*Malteasers Instant Hot Chocolate (£2.59)
I'll start with the two drinks included in the October box, the first being an autumnal staple, hot chocolate. Before I switched to a vegan diet at the beginning of 2019, my favourite hot chocolate was from Malteasters. Most hot chocolate brands are either very weak or quite powdery but this one isn't thankfully; it is very rich and creamy.

*Costa Instant Coffee (£5.50)
The most expensive item in the box is a tin of instant coffee from Costa which combines a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans; the beans are slow roasted to provide a smooth and nutty flavoured coffee. I don't love Coasta Coffee, overall, but I did like this one!

*Reese's Peanut Butter Minis (£1.50)
Now onto the snacks, the first is one almost everyone loves, peanut butter cups from Reeses. I used to love these before switching to a vegan diet and I'd love it if they made a vegan version; I might try to make my own as I used to love these. This pack contains their bitesized mini cups which are great for sharing (or baking with!).

*Olly's Pretzel Thins (£1)
One of my favourite snacks from the box, along with the delicious Naked veg pot, are the pretzel thins. There were two flavour options in the box - salted original and multi-seed sesame. I loved both flavour options but I think the classic salted pretzel is my favourite of the two!
*Brynmor Chocolate Flapjack (£1.29)
Snacks bars are a staple not only within my diet (they are perfect on the go or lazy desk snacks) but also in the monthly DegustaBox boxes. This bar is suitable for vegetarians and contains high quality natural ingredients. I've tried a vegan bar from this brand previously and loved it!

*Kookie Cat Wild Berries
The gift within the October box was a mini cashew and oat cookie from Kookie Cat. It is vegan and contains a range of organic ingredients. Unfortunately I really didn't like this cookie as it had a very grainy texture, an unusual flavour and it was quite crumbly/messy.

*Yes! Plant Protein Bars (£1.59)
THEY CONTAIN PLANT PROTEIN BUT THEY AREN'T VEGAN. WHAT'S THE POINT! Rant over but the emphasis on the plant protein within these bars made me initially think they were vegan but they aren't...they are suitable for vegetarians. Cries in vegan.
*St Pierre Brioche Burger Buns (£2)
Moving onto a few carb filled products, the first is a pack of six brioche burger buns from St Pierre. I used to love brioche and I particularly loved the combination of sweet and buttery brioche with savoury fillings so I think they would be amazing as a burger bun.

*Whaoo! Chocolate Filled Crepes (£1.75)
Another great sharing product are the chocolate filled crepes from Whaoo! They would have been ideal for socially distanced halloween parties or a packed lunch sweet treat. Additionally, as they are all individually wrapped up, they could be shared with friends or family as part of a halloween hamper/treat.
*KitKat Senses Chocolate Selection Gift Box (£5)
One of the best sharing items in the box has to be the KitKat senses gift box which would be an ideal bonfire night sharing snack with your household. Myself and my mum loved this box which was included in a previous DegustaBox especially the hazelnut praline flavour!

*Attack A Snak Original Nachos (£1.50)
Who doesn't love nachos! The pack comes with a tomato salsa section and a packet of cheese; however I just used to nachos and made a quick guacamole as a dip - it was delicious. I think it would make a very quick and easy lunch option, particularly for those working from home and in need of a treat.

*Naked Malaysian Rendang Veg Pot (£1.50)
Last but not least is my favourite item from the box which I've already purchased two more of as I loved it. I haven't tried many noodle or snack pots like this as there aren't too many which are vegan. The pot is 100% plant based and one of your five a day. Thankfully this one is vegan and it is so delicious; it is spicy but only mildly spicy and very moreish. I've bought a couple already and I'll definitely buy more very soon.

  11. How annoying about those protein bars - very misleading marketing! I'd definitely have bought one for my partner assuming they'd be vegan too if I was only quickly nipping to the shop...
