Coloured Contact Lenses + Tips
Lipstick: ColorPop November, Mascara: TheBalm Mad Lash
I have been wearing contact lenses for the past almost seven years and I've just worn normal, non-coloured contact lenses from Specsavers and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made! The choice to switch to contact lenses rather than glasses was because wearing glasses in my high school wasn't something you'd want to do, glasses usually give me a headache and I just didn't want to wear glasses anymore.

I had a contact lens trial/test at Specsavers and while it took a couple of weeks to get used to, I definitely recommend contacts as they are comfortable, easy to wear, they don't give me headaches like glasses do and I definitely prefer them to glasses.

When I was sent some *Freshlook Colorblends Lenses in Gemstone Green (£8.50 each) I was excited to give them a go as I haven't really tried coloured lenses before, apart from halloween lenses. I chose the 'gemstone green' option as I think green eyes are so beautiful and I'd love to have naturally green eyes.

The Freshlook Colorblends lenses blend three colours in one to make them look the most natural, which hopefully you can see from the photo of the lens below. They are sold as single lenses so you need to buy two which is a bit annoying as they should be sold as a pair.

To buy, you only need to know the SPH number for your prescription, mine is -2.00 for both eyes currently and I chose the 'gemstone green' shade but there are so many other shades to choose from, if you didn't want the shade option I have.

The lenses do obviously look different to my regular non-coloured eyes but they feel just as comfortable to wear; the only difference is that they seem slightly bigger and they have a coloured section. They are also just as easy to put in and the colour is a little freaky to start with especially in bright light but in normal indoor lighting it actually looks quite natural; however in outdoor light and bright light they don't look natural at all.

At first the lenses were a little odd to wear but they became normal the longer I wore them and by the middle of the day I didn't notice any difference to my usual lenses so much so that I forgot they were coloured and scared myself in the mirror...

While I personally wouldn't wear coloured lenses instead of my usual ones, I do think that they are great for occasions and as they last for one month, it's a nice change and while they are obviously fake within a metre or so but further from that and they look surprisingly natural.

Now onto some of my tips and advice for someone wanting to try contact lenses for the first time:

- Go for a contact lens appointment at your opticians as you'll never know if they are right for you if you don't give them a go, even just for a couple of days
- Do your research! Do you want daily or monthly lenses, coloured or 'normal' and would they suit your lifestyle?
- Make sure you wash your hands before you touch your lenses as there is an increased risk of eye infections with contact lenses but it is minimal
- Lastly, check that you are actually able to wear lenses as some people can't for medical reasons

What do you think of these green lenses? Are you a contact lens or glasses wearer? If you wear glasses, would your ever want to try contact lenses?

  13. I've tried contacts in the past and had such a rubbish time with them. I remember virtually scratching my eye out to try and remove them, I just couldn't get the knack.
