How To Style A Trench Coat + Wish List

Sunday, June 18, 2017
There's one item of clothing that I've tried and failed to style for years and I've finally given up and that is, the trench coat. The trench coat style is over 100 years old and is inspired by mens military uniforms and style which is one of the reasons I love the trench coat. The unisex style, simple design and practical form have made it a classic wardrobe staple for years, both for men and women.

The classic British trench coat is a common choice among chic celebrities such as the ever gorgeous Clémence Poésy, Miranda Kerr, Alexa Chung, the amazing Emma Watson and the ever popular Duchess of Cambridge. Although some of the iconic celebrities from Old Hollywood and the original supermodels were the original advocates for the classic trench coat such as the beauty that was Marlene Dietrich, Bridget Bardot and the timeless Audrey Hepburn.

The trench coat is been revamped throughout the years with pink, navy, shorter, less fitted and oversized variations but whatever style you choose, they are all wardrobe staples and perfect for this time of the year in the UK where one minute the weather will be sunny and warm, the next it will be muggy and hayfever inducing (my favourite) or the weather will then turn rainy and grey.
To help with the seemingly impossible task of finding the right trench coat and then styling you're newly acquired trench coat, Jack Wills have created a guide on how to style a trench coat which you should definitely read. Their trench coats are also gorgeous, especially the Hathershaw Cropped Trench Coat which is currently on sale and could be styled with jeans, a cropped breton jumper or tee and ankle boots.

The Duncombe Trench Coat is Jack Wills' most classic but practical trench coat which is the style you see the most being worn again and again by so many celebrities and it could be styled so many ways, making it the most versatile option. Even though it's an iconic piece of British clothing, it could be taking to a french chic level with a breton tee, denim of your choice and maybe a dupe of the gorgeous Gucci red brixton horse bit loafers. Or for a more British and formal feel, pair with black denim, a crisp white shirt and floral heels or sandals a la Dolce and Gabbana SS17 or even some quirky flatforms as seen at Gucci and Balmain.

Here's my mini Jack Wills trench coat and trench coat pairings wish list:

Michael Kors Watch ft. Plus Watches

Michael Kors Watch ft. Plus Watches - www.ofbeautyandnothingness.co.uk
Since the early days of blogging I have wanted a Michael Kors watch, especially a gorgeous rose gold one as they were everywhere in the blogging community a few years ago! Now after five years of blogging, I was sent the *Michael Kors MK5503 Ladies Bradshaw Rose Gold Watch (RRP £249 - SALE £124.99) from Plus Watches.

I received the watch a couple of weeks ago and to be honest, I've been starting at it ever since as it's so gorgeous and I'm a bit of a magpie! As with every other blogger, I love rose gold so when I had the amazing opportunity to choose a Michael Kors watch, I had to pick a rose gold option although there are lots of other styles to choose from.

The watch I have arrived quickly and it came with a heavy faux leather box and a little manual/instruction booklet. The watch is rose gold plated, it's water resistant to 100m and it has a chronograph (three sub-dials on the face). There are SO many Michael Kors watches available, especially when it comes to the pretty rose gold options but I love this one because it oversized and very heavy but it's so quite simple and sleek.
Michael Kors Watch ft. Plus Watches - www.ofbeautyandnothingness.co.uk
I've just noticed that you can see a distorted image of me and my camera in the watch!
I haven't been able to wear it as much as I want to as it is too big for my teeny tiny wrists, you'll know this if you've read my previous watch posts so I will have to get some of the links removed so I can wear it probably. It is also very heavy, particularly compared to my other watches such as my Daniel Wellington, Breo, Kartel or House of Florrie watch.

The design is just gorgeous! Yes, it is heavy and oversized but I think it has such a classic style and shape. It could definitely be worn casually and formally with the right outfit and the rose gold makes it look a bit more unique and feminine.

I do have a few watches, all of which I love and would recommend but I haven't had one with a chronograph feature before and it took a quick google to set it properly and I still have no idea what the left hand side dial does but I love the way it looks!

Overall, I can't recommend this watch enough, it's so gorgeous and I can't wait to get some of the links removed so I can wear it properly. They have so many watches to choose from at all discounted prices as they are a UK wholesale stockist of authentic branded watches. They offer free delivery and a two year warranty! Overall rating: ★★★★★, 5/5.

What do you think of this watch? Do you have a Michael Kors watch?

Summer Wish List: Beauty + Books

Images from Debenhams + Feelunique
I have been really good recently about not spending money on clothes, accessories, homeware or beauty but I have been buying used books quite often although in my defence, they were all really cheap...Instead of spending money that I need to save for a new phone and car insurance (boooo!), I'm going to share a wish list of the beauty products and books that I want to buy. Most of the items in this post are new products!

Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look In A Palette  -  Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lipstick  -  La Roche Posay Anthelious SPF Face Mist  -  Estee Lauder Double Wear Light  -  Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish  -  Benefit Hoola Lite  -  Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess

I have wanted to try Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess for so long, I believe a new bottle design comes out each year and this one is just gorgeous *look at it!*. Also as summer is almost here, I can tell because my hayfever is awful, I need an SPF and this mist option from La Roche Posay sounds great as does the latest version of Benefit's Hoola bronzer.

Bobbi Brown is a brand that has always been on my radar, from my early days of blogging back in 2012 but I never buy anything as to be honest it doesn't excite me as much as other brands and products do but these art sticks look interesting, especially this gorgeous summery red shade! The freebie website www.gratisfaction.co.uk/ currently has a freebie offer to get a free Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lipstick which is amazing! It also collates other freebie offers including homeware, food and books that you definitely need to check out - pretty much every week I'll go through freebie sites to see if there are any interesting offers and freebies.
Images from Waterstones + Amazon
As I said, I've been buying so many used books recently which isn't great as I have so many books already but I have two excuses...first, the books are used and very cheap. Secondly, I have been on a roll with my reading recently, I've been reading over ten books every month for the past few months and my June reading is incredible as I'm set to finish at least FIFTEEN books and two audiobooks in June.

Into The Water by Paula Hawkins  -  Dragon Teeth by Michael Crichton  - Godblind by Anna Stephens  -  Harry Potter 20th Anniversary edition by J.K Rowling  -  The Fact Of A Body by Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich  -  It by Stephen King  -  The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

The Handmaid's Tale is top of my list, not just because I loved The Tent by Margaret Atwood earlier this year and because I want to watch the TV show but I can't until I've read the book. Another recent release that I cannot wait to read is Into The Water by Paula Hawkins as it sounds right up my street as does GodBlind.

I cannot believe that Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone is 20 years old this year! That means that I was four years old when it was first published. The Harry Potter films, books and world in general is so nostalgic and comforting, I can't explain how comforting and de-stressing this world and series is for me. It's true that for life long Harry Potter fans, Hogwarts will always feel like home.

What products are on your wish list? Have you read any of these books? Do you visit any freebie websites?

How to make your home look more expensive on a budget

Thursday, June 15, 2017
Image from The Glitter Guide via Pinterest
Ever returned from an amazing holiday in a fabulous hotel, and felt that your own home was lame in comparison to the luxurious space you’ve spent the last week in? Or found yourself pining over Pinterest boards for interiors inspiration, only to question how you’d ever afford to decorate your home in that way? Decorating can be a really exciting time as you pick out new furniture, colour schemes and accessories to spruce up your living spaces, but achieving the right look can often have a big strain on your bank account. If you’d love to transform your decor but don’t have a large budget, then take a look at these tips to get your home looking straight out of a magazine in no time.

Keep it minimal
A cluttered space is the last thing you’ll want if you’re hoping for that elegant look. Introduce some discreet storage options to hide away any bits and bobs that don’t need to be on display, and carefully arrange furniture and your best ornaments in a way that really compliments the room. Think of your home as a showroom - everything that’s there should be there for a reason!

Find some abstract accessories
Arty designs and abstract patterns can be a great way to add some sophistication to any room, and there are plenty of cheap options available. Work some DIY magic by printing out artwork and prints you love, buying some cheap frames and hanging imagery around each room. Cushions, throws and rugs are a great way to insert some abstract style into any space, and there are plenty of affordable contemporary rugs out there with quirky designs that can bring a room together perfectly.

Maximise your space
If your home is a bit on the small side, consider bringing in ways to utilise the space you have. Mirrors are a great option for this, with large mirrors giving the illusion of a bigger space, especially when placed across from the entrance of the room. Getting rid of heavy curtains or blinds from your windows is another easy way to open up a room, or substituting them for a more simplistic design if you want to keep some privacy.

Disguise your electronics
Nothing ruins the appearance of a well put together room like a games console, huge TV or wires and plugs tangled together. Think of clever ways to hide away your electronic items so that they don’t distract from the design of the room. This could mean buying a cheap TV cabinet or mounting flat screen TV’s on a wall, and experimenting with inventive ways to hide cords. Placing your router in a fancy box is another great tip, with simple but effective results.

Finish off with some flowers
Lastly, take some interior style inspiration from the Parisians and decorate your home with a selection of beautiful botanicals. Flowers can instantly breathe new life into any room and give that welcoming feel that hotels love. Look for cheap bouquets of flowers that you can re arrange yourself and place these on coffee tables and cabinets, perhaps substituting pricey vases with mason jars or old wine bottles for a creative alternative.

Do you have any tips or advice? Where are your favourite places for homeware?

Summer Fragrance Wish List ft. L'Occitane

Wednesday, June 14, 2017
With every season comes the influx of new and exciting beauty releases *I love those times of the year* and the summer releases coming out now are just gorgeous and have my bank account trembling. Top of my 'to buy' list is a new summer fragrance as most of mine are quite autumnal and wintery so I need a perfume that is lighter, floral and fresher compared to the rest of my collection. Here are some new fragrances releases as well as the summer picks that I have on my ever growing wish list:

L'Occitane Pivoine Flora EDT Intense Roll On (£18, 10ml)
I have loved all of the fragrances L'Occitane makes, especially the Cherry Blossom range which is one of my favourite scents of all time - it's so heavenly and nostalgic to me. I have wanted to branch out into their other fragrance ranges for a while now and the Pivoile Flora rollerball fragrance seems perfect as it features green and floral notes that are quintessentially summery.

L'Occitane Cherry Blossom EDT Intense Roll On (£18, 10ml)
As I said, the Cherry Blossom range is so incredibly nostalgic to me, it's been one of my favourites ranges from any brand for at least the past six years! I've gone through around three bottles of the full sized fragrance and I cannot describe the scent as it's just fragrance perfection - make sure you go in stores to give it a try. L'Occitane is one of the only companies I am aware of that make so many of their fragrances available in such a travel friendly rollerball opinions - it will be perfect for summer holidays.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Kiss EDT (£55, 50ml)
L'Occitane packaging is gorgeous and this new Daisy Dream variation from Marc Jacobs is equally so - I love the packaging! As with the Cherry Blossom fragrance, this one is also quite nostalgic as I've loved the original Daisy and Daisy Dream perfumes for years. They are both so sweet, feminine and fresh as is the Eau So Fresh option too so the latest variation is on my very long beauty wish list.

Viktor & Rolf LE Spring Bonbon EDT (£58)
I love their Flowerbomb fragrance but I've wanted to try Bonbon for a while and this limited edition spring EDT looks so cute, I need to try it! I've heard great things about it in the blogging world and you can't not want to try it with that cute bow bottle.

Moschino Pink Fresh Couture EDT (£36)
When it comes to unique packaging, I don't know if anyone can beat Moschino! How unique but adorable is this fragrance bottle! The fragrance features notes of grapefruit, lily of the valley, pomegranate, wild rose and cedarwood - it sounds lovely and great for the spring/summer months.

L'Occitane Cerisier Pastel EDT - Online Exclusive
A new fragrance find for me, the Cerisier Pastel range from L'Occitane which is only available on their website, not in-stores. It contains cherry blossom floral water and cherry blossom extract, so I know I'll love it. The packaging is so summery and the 'fragrance touch' version of this fragrance sounds like such an interesting and unique product!

Are any of these fragrances on your wish list? Have you tried any of these?

Ultimate Father's Day Gift Guide: Part Two

Monday, June 12, 2017
Father's Day isn't far away now if you're in the UK and I think we all know how difficult it can be to buy for certain people and for me, my dad is that difficult person. I usually just buy him aftershave and socks or foodie gifts but thanks to some wonderful brands I'm able to share a range of fantastic and unique gifts that would be perfect for Father's Day or birthdays.

*Heat Holders Batman Mens Thermal Slipper Socks (£9.99)
The ultimate 'dad' gift! You can't not give socks to your dad or grandad on Father's Day/birthdays, they are just easy, safe gifts that are obviously super practical. However, these are definitely a bit more fun and they also happen to be cosiest socks ever! The socks have the batman logo on the front and on the rubber on the soles; they also feature typical batman comic book colours. You may not know this about me but...I love the old school batman films directed by Tim Burton and so does my dad so he'll loves these (also the inside of the socks is incredibly soft and fluffy!). If your gift recipient isn't a batman fan then check out their site as they also have socks featuring the hulk, superman, minions, star wars and plain socks to choose from. As the weather has turned really chilly in the UK, these socks will be an essential!
*Bakerdays Father's Day Letterbox Cake (£15.99)
I've seen these cute cakes over twitter for a while and they always look fantastic as a quick, personalised and yummy gift. I was able to choose a cute letterbox cake from their Father's Day range and obviously I opted for the 'My Father' cake which is personalised. The cake comes in a small metal tin which is great not just so it's protected in transit but it makes the cake look more substantial and it can be re-used - I love the tin design I received that says 'mmm cake'!

I was able to choose the 'lovely lemon drizzle' flavour but there are other flavours including: rich chocolate chip, dairy free sponge, wheat free sponge, fabulous fruit and vanilla sponge so there are a lot of options to choose from. The letterbox size is as it would suggest and it's a great size as usually we end up with wasted cake. I love the tin, the design is just perfect and the size is great for 5 - 6 people but there are other sizes available. The cake tastes so nice, I love the lemon flavour and how sweet it is (but it's not overly sugary). The sponge is lighter than I thought it would be and it was a hit all round. I cannot recommend this service enough!
*Elizabeth Shaw Dark Chocolate Lemon Flutes (£2.25)
For most, chocolates are a safe and delicious gift option and these lemon flutes from Elizabeth Shaw are so yummy! Dark chocolate and lemon is such a gorgeous flavour combination that I haven't had before and they are so moreish (sorry dad, I've ate them all...). They are obviously a treat but birthdays and Father's Day is a occasion to treat yourself and others. I am definitely going to look into more of these flavours as this one was so delicious and I know a lot of family and friends that would love these!
*Activ8rlives Buddy Band 2 (RRP £54.99)
Next up, a gift for active dads or dads that want to become more active, monitor sleep or track steps/exercise. This activity, sleep and calorie tracker comes with the module, usb charging cable, belt clip and three wrist straps. The tracker is easy to put together, the app is free and it's also very quick to connect to the app and set everything up.

I've only used it a few times so far and I'm still getting used to it and it's a little bit confusing so far but that's just because I've never used any kind of fitness tracker or sleep tracker like this so it will take a bit of getting used to. I think it would make a great practical gift for active dads. I will have a full review on my blog when I've tried it for a couple of weeks.
*LSA International Craft Beer Glasses (£26)
If you've read my previous gift guides then you'll know that I love to give practical gifts and these glasses are perfect as well as being really inexpensive for the quality. I think glasses are great gifts and they could easily be added to a gift hamper! These glasses are 'craft beer' style glasses and I love the shape, it's so unusual and very instagramable! I know my dad will love these on Father's Day and I think they'd be great for beer loving dads, maybe as part of a foodie and beer hamper?

The price is fantastic as the glasses come boxed, they are mouth blown glasses (anything that is handmade is extra special isn't it!) and the quality is fantastic as you would expect from a artisanal product and well known brand. If these aren't up your street, then check out the other gorgeous gifts on Amara, they have so many to choose from.
*Extra Bright Star Gift Set (£44.99)
As well as practical gifts I also love to give extra special and personalised gifts as the look on any recipients face is always priceless and who doesn't love special and personalised gifts! This one ticks all of the boxes as it's personalised (tick), very special (tick), pre-wrapped (tick) and unlike any other gift you usually receive (tick).

We've all heard of the gift that you can name a star after someone special but there's more to it than that and I was a little shocked *in a very good way* when this gift set arrived from the incredibly lovely people at the Star Name Registry as it's so well presented and it looks so special. I have the extra bright star gift set which contains full documentation about the star that is named after your special recipient as well as a sliver certificate frame with the deed, entry into the register and it's all wrapped in blue tissue paper.

There are three options to choose from, the standard star, extra bright star or binary star as well as gift set options for all three which are a little more expensive but they come so well packaged and gift wrapped. When ordered you can choose the name of the star, a memorable date and which constellation - I chose andromeda as it's the most well know, to me anyway!

The deed has the recipients name, memorable date, a gift message and the details about where the star is; you can go onto their website and enter the unique reference number on the deed to find where your star is in the night sky - I've done it and you can see it on google sky. I couldn't be happier with this gift, I think it's so special and I know my dad will absolutely love it!
*Coat of Arms and Surname History Print (£29.99)
Another extra special, unique and personalised gift and this one is from the amazing people over at Find Me A Gift who I have been lucky enough to work with previously; most recently in the first part of my 2017 Father's Day gift guide. This gorgeously designed print, that can be bought framed as mine is, contains the history of your surname (if it's within their database/list).

Thankfully mine, Nixon, was available and it came well wrapped and beautifully framed! It looks so fancy, especially with the family crest and gold 'authentic surname history - hall of names' sticker on the print. I think this gift is perfect for dads and grandads as it's not just personalised but it describes the history of your own surname which is so unique and interesting. I know my dad will adore this and I now need to buy one for my lovely grandad.

I've read through my surname history and it is so interesting, I knew a couple of bits of information such as that the surname Nixon is derived from 'son of Nicholas' but the rest was new to me and my dad will love reading this and discovering more about the history of our surname! Also my surname apparently goes back to the gaelic and celtic people of Britain! I cannot recommend this gift enough as it's so unique, it's something your gift recipient will not be expecting at all and it's so well presented.
*Personalised Map Heart Coasters - JuniperDaze (£16)
Again, another amazing personalised gift option! I think personalised gifts are fantastic gifts to give or receive and I know the recipients of all of these will be so incredibly surprised and happy with them. These adorable personalised coasters come in a lovely heart shape or hexagonal shaped coasters so they can fit together.

You can choose the map location for each coaster and obviously as I'm from the sunny rainy but wonderful city of Manchester; I also chose Chester as it's an equally lovely city with amazing roman ruins and history. The maps are all really clear and would be perfect if the recipient was a special city they live in, love or have visited. Maybe the city you met, where you got married, a hometown or a special holiday location?

Each coaster is handmade, they are really well made and such a great gift idea for Father's Day, birthdays or anniversaries (or as a wedding gift?). They are wooden and have a layer of felt on the back to protect any surface you place them on and to prevent slipping. I couldn't be happier with these lovely coasters, they look great around the house and together a set of 4, 6 or 8 would be a surprising and unique handmade Father's Day gift.
*Bags of Love Personalised Pillow (from £39 - on offer, 3 for 2)
Lastly, one of my favourite items from my Father's Day gift guides this year and it's another wonderful personalised and extra special gift idea from Bags of Love which is a personalised gift specialist website. As well as pillows and cushions they also have clothing, cards, books, mugs, aprons, china plates, chairs and so many more items that can be personalised with your own photos!

I was able to design my own photograph pillow (£60) which has holiday photographs on both sides, it doesn't have a zip and it's filled with feathers, there are other options to choose from though if you didn't want these. The process of designing the pillow was so quick and easy, I was able to add so many photos and I love how simple the website/process is.

The pillow arrived quickly and I couldn't be happier with the quality and design! The photos came out surprisingly well considering they're printed onto soft fabric and the colours are true to how the photographs were when uploaded. I've used memorable holiday photos from the past few years from Venice, Rome, Florence, Ephesus and various places around the UK, including York and the Harry Potter studios. I think anyone would love this gift as it's so soft and comfy as well as really special and such a unique gift idea that is super practical.

What do you think of my final Father's Day gift guide?
