*Travel Wish List: Tuscany

I've been lucky enough to visit quite a few cities within Italy and my favourites have to include Venice and Florence, the latter is within Tuscany, one of the most beautiful and vibrant regions of Italy! You can read my cruise photo diary post all about Florence to get my thoughts from 2014 which seems like a lifetime ago. Despite having visited numerous cities within Italy, I'd still love to visit more, especially Florence again as it was such a beautiful city and as my birthday is a religious day (feast of the assumption - 15th August), a fair few places were closed so I couldn't explore as much of the city as I would have liked.

Florence
I adore history and one of my life long regrets will be that I was pushed to take chemistry at college rather than ancient history which is what I wanted to do so to curb my need of history knowledge, I do watch quite a lot of documentaries (I always have them playing in the background while I edit photos or catch up on emails). One period of history that I love to learn about is the Italian renaissance and the time of Machiavelli, the infamous Borgias and famous artists of that time and Florence was one of the epicentres of that time period.

Florence is an incredibly beautiful city and at it's heart is the Duomo which is an astounding architectural marvel but sadly we didn't have time to explore so if I do visit Florence again, I'd love to go inside the Duomo as well as the Santa Croce. Additionally, Florence is also home to the world famous Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio bridge which we crossed back in 2014. I cannot recommend visiting Florence enough as it's such a historically important and architecturally beautiful city.

San Gimignano
San Gimignano is a hillside town on the outskirts of Florence and is enveloped by it's 13th century city walls. This Medieval town is known as the 'town of fine towers' due to the fourteen towers which encircle the town; it's skyline of medieval towers looks truly stunning and I would absolutely love to visit so it's no wonder it was recognised as a world heritage site since 1990.

Siena
Along with Florence and Pisa, Siena is one of the most recognisable tuscan cities due to it's medieval brick buildings, romanesque-gothic cathedral and world heritage site status. Siena boasts the claim to house one of the worlds biggest medieval squares or piazzas but it also contains a breathtakingly beautiful cathedral and holds work by Donatello, Bernini and Michelangelo.

Volterra
Volterra which is a walled city within the southwest of Florence in the province of Pisa. Volterra is home to the oldest town hall in Tusancy, Palazzo dei Priori but it isn't the only impressive structure within the city as it's also home to roman ruins including a roman theatre!

Val d’Orcia
Lastly, not a city but a stunning region of Tuscany. The Val d’Orcia landscape is an endless horizon of rich rolling hills, fertile valleys and vineyards and is protected as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The region is known for wine making, olive oil, chestnuts, truffles and more and it's one of the reasons I'd love to visit as Italian food has to be the best in the world!

Tuscany is a region of Italy I've visited briefly as part of a cruise to Florence and Pisa but I would absolutely love to visit agin as there's so much more to see in one of the most beautiful and culturally vibrant regions of Italy! For more information about Tuscany, visit To Tuscany.

Have you visited Tuscany? If not, do you want to and where do you want to visit?
