#PhoneUpgradeTips

Wednesday, October 04, 2017
Today's post is all about a campaign I'm taking part in with Contact Numbers UK which focuses on #PhoneUpgradeTips. Contact Numbers UK have a large directory of customer service contact numbers for various industries including EE, Vodafone and Three. It can be a little daunting looking through the plethora of phones on the market especially as they are always updating and improving. I always feel like I need to have the latest of everything and with the launch of the new iPhone, it's very easy to become tempted to switch networks, switch plans or to switch phones and upgrade.

I had my iPhone 5c for a few years and a couple of months ago it started to become almost unusable as it would constantly crash, freeze or run very slowly so I started looking around for a new phone and what was in budget, what phone had the specifications I wanted and whether to stay with the network I was already on. I opted to buy a new iPhone 7 via Argos, which wasn't what I wanted to do at first but it was the phone I wanted *rose gold is always best*. I've had contract phone in the past but right now, buying is the best option for me personally. Here are some of the tips I've discovered while searching for the best options for me and when it comes to upgrading as well as some tips for switching over to a new phone:

Always shop around or Contact Your Current Provider
Whether it is a new lipstick, book or phone, I always shop around! Not just to find the best deal, offer or sale but also to compare phone reviews and ratings on various websites. Additionally, if you want a better deal with your current provider then why not contact them and see if there is a better deal, rate or upgrade they can offer you. This latter point isn't just restricted to mobile deals - my mum is super savvy and contacts other providers we're with to see if they have better deals and she always ends up saving money!

Find The Best Plan/Phone For You & Look For Extras
By this I mean, look at what you're actually using on your current phone, for example, if you use the camera a lot on your current phone then look for an upgrade with a better camera as you know that it's a feature you'll use the most. Also when looking at plans, I always go for the plans with the largest amount of data for the budget I have as I know I use my 3G more than I use the texts or minutes. Additionally some phones can come with extras so why not search for the best one available.

Timing Is Key
Check your contact to see if there are any penalties for cancelling your contact before it's end date so then you won't have to pay for two phones and make sure that you are able to buy and use your new phone around the same time as your old phone contact ends otherwise you might be left with no phone to use. But it is best to look and research early as some companies might have a quota on the deals they can offer so check back with them.

Making The Switch Easier
As I said, I have recently switched to a new iPhone and the main point that was worrying me was whether I could transfer the photos, videos, contacts and sim from the old phone to the new, by myself. I looked online for tips before hand about how to remove the sim etc and thankfully it was very easy for me as I was switching from a iPhone 5c on O2 to an iPhone 7 on O2 so I just had to back everything up to the cloud *very important* swap the SIM cards and that's it! Everything updated, transferred and it works perfectly. I would say that make sure you back up and keep the old phone if you can for a little while, just incase there are problems.

Do you have any tips on phone upgrades or finding the best deal? Have you switched phones or plans recently?

  1. I really need to upgrade my phone soon as I've had it for 3 years and have got my eye on one of the newer iPhone models so I can take some better blog photos! My problem is I'm too lazy to sit through sites of endless offers haha it can get so tedious can't it, I do love how easily you can swap everything from iPhone to iPhone though :)

  2. My recent upgrade was a nightmare but not in terms of transferring data; we had to go into the store to upgrade which took almost an hour because they were having tech problems, and then we got home and they’d cancelled the order because the address we’d given was different to the one on the account (which they would have seen when ordering it in store but they didn’t think to sort it out then) I did get a really good deal in the end though with 20% student discount and free Apple Music for 6 months, so it’s not all bad ☺️
