Skincare Tips + Tricks

With various skin types requiring attention from moisturisers, masks and treatments, your skin is not a simple map when analysing areas that need help from a certain product. Skin can be greasy, oily, dry, wrinkled or smooth, and thus need a balance to ensure its health and upkeep. This is known as combination skin. But do not fret, for there are ways to keep it easily moisturised, glowing and youthful.

Identifying your skin’s needs
It can be hard to immediately pinpoint what combinations your skin requires to remain healthy and vibrant. Some parts may be greasy, while other areas may need more moisturising. To decipher your skin combination Boldijarre Koronczay, President of Eminence Organic Skin Care, claims “You can determine if you have combination skin by using an oil absorbing blotting paper. If your forehead, nose and/or chin (your T-zone) are generally oilier and your cheeks tend to be dry, then you have combination skin.” If you have concluded that you possess combination skin, be sure to take precautions in protecting it against the sun. Sunscreen is soon to become your best moisturising buddy.

Exfoliation and Creams
When it comes to exfoliating and cleansing, it is always wise to shower in either cold water or wash your face in mildly warm water to purify pores and dirt in your skin. After this is completed, it is wise to build up a portfolio of products that can tackle each impurity. Whether this consists of new skincare products or old favourites, be careful with your combinations and apply each item separately before washing your hands. You do not want to accidentally get a product on the wrong skin section. But also remember to experiment with your products. You may end up with some interesting combinations.

Keep your hands off your face
Cross contamination can be a big problem when it comes to combination skin. This can be by using old brushes to paint cream onto your face, by forgetting to wash your hands, or just accidentally touching your skin without removing the previous cream. This can lead to bacteria being spread into different areas of your face, or even an extreme spot or blackhead breakout. While this may seem horrifying to any beauty conscious person, it is easily resolved. When applying your creams be sure to wear gloves or use a non-latex sponge to move the cream smoothly along your pores. Be sure to always clean old brushes after using them with makeup or cream too.

Fragrance-Free is the Key
Having itchy and blotchy skin is never a pleasant experience. For combination skin, it may occur in certain areas of your face, such as around your nose where oils and grease tend to build up. Whenever you exfoliate, remember always to use soaps and body gels that are fragrance-free and can build upon your beautiful visage. If it is a cheap product, then it will surely show on your face.
