House of Fraser Beauty Blogger Competition: Glamourous Christmas

Here is my entry for the House of Fraser Beauty Blogger Competition. The look I have created features makeup items available from the House of Fraser website (www.houseoffraser.co.uk). I was inspired by Dita Von Teese and old school Hollywood glamour icons from Marylin Monroe to Veronica Lake and modern glamorous actresses such as Angelina Jolie, Kate Winselt and Scarlett Johansson. This Christmas party (or new years eve) look can be adapted to your style by adding more or less liner, a darker lip or stronger brows - it's up to you!

To create this look I would:

1. Firstly, apply the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation over the skin. I have a sample of this foundation and it is gorgeous; it makes the skin look almost 'lit from within'. This foundation applies well with fingertips or with the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. Also this foundation does not contain SPF so it will not flash back in photographs!

2. Secondly, I would apply my MAC Select Moisturecover Concealer (I have the shade NW15). I would recommend going one shade lighter with under eye concealers to brighten the under eye area. This concealer is great for my dry skin and it covers well without being really heavy under the eyes. If you have slightly oily skin you could powder now with a loose/pressed powder such as the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder.

3. Now on to brows! I love strong brows on everyone (Cara Delevingne has the most gorgeous brows) so I would usually fill mine in with a dark brown eyeshadow or with my MAC brow pencil in the shade 'Fling'. Then my brows need to be set so the Bobbi Brown Brow Shaper is needed to hold my brows in shape and to give them a bit of extra colour/texture.

4. I would then apply my Clinique Brush On Liner in the shade '02 True Black' which I have been using for years now. I love this creamy gel eyeliner as it is so easy to work with, it dries quickly and if you make a mistake it is easy to remove with a basic makeup remover. You can go as strong or as subtle as you want with the liner. I would just line my upper lash line and create a slight point at the outer corners. You could also use this Clinique liner in the shade 'Black Honey' to create a brown liner look which you could then smudge and darken with a bronze/brown eyeshadow for a gorgeous sultry bronzy brown smokey eye!

5. Then on to my Benefit Hoola Bronzer which I have been using for months now and I use it as a contour. I contour my cheekbones and jaw with this bronzer as it is matte and a great shade for pale skins such as mine. To use I just suck in my cheeks (the fish face, not very attractive I know!) and apply the bronzer in the hollows of my cheeks to accentuate my cheekbones and make them look stronger and more sculpted than they actually are.

6. Next up is mascara and I have chosen the Diorshow Waterproof Mascara in 'Black/Noir' as I have loved this mascara for years now but mine has finally kicked the bucket so I will have to buy a new one. The Lancome Hypnose Star Mascara would also work really well as it can be built up to create gorgeous lashes but I just prefer waterproof mascaras.

7. Now on to lips, I have chosen my gorgeous Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in the shade 'Dolce Vita' which is a natural dark rosy red shade which makes this look more wearable, for me personally but you could wear a red or plum lip with this look and it would look amazing! The Burberry Lip Cover in the shade 'Rosewood' would look great with this look as well. For a gloss option you could try the Lancome Colour Fever Gloss in the shade '321' for a sheer glitter lip gloss that will catch the light beautifully and it feels so smooth/comfortable on the lips, in my opinion.

8. Last but not least is nails, I have picked a Deborah Lippmann Nail polish in the shade 'I love the nightlife' as it looks incredible and you could apply it on its own for a sheer glittery polish or you could layer it with a black or dark grey polish for added sparkle!
